Those Norwegians - Toons

Red Melon is proud to bring you this long awaited release by Those Norwegians (Rune Lindbaek, Torbjorn Brundtland, and Ole Mjos, some members of whom are currently enjoying chart success as Royskopp) - a track entitled "Toons" previously only found on the now out-of-print 1997 original paperecodings full-length, "Kaminzky Park" (PAPCD/LP001). Along with the highly sought after Orignal Kaminzky Park Mix, we've included a brand new remix by Plastic City's acclaimed Terry Lee Brown Junior, as well as the hypnotic Terry's Dub which is sure to please even the most discerning dancefloors.

Firmly anchored in a bassline that keeps forward momentum first and foremost, the Original Kaminzky Park Mix (A1) takes you through a journey of percolating percussion and haunting voices as it drives, builds, swirls, and sweeps its way to a brilliant synth lead breakdown before firmly slapping you right back into the heart of the groove. Musically unique and utterly hypnotic as could only have been conceived by the minds of these top Nordic lads who hail from the northern town of Tromso, Norway - land of the midnight sun...

On the flip we have Germany's own Terry Lee Brown Junior (aka Norman Feller) taking over remix duty (B1) as he puts his signature stamp of lush strings, cinematic washes, and cut up vocals perfectly layered over driving syncopated percussion creating a tech-house dancefloor monster. Terry's Dub mix (B2) rounds out this collection with it's chunky conga and timbale-driven beats while retaining the lushness, depth, and unique musicality of both the Norwegians' style as well as Terry's world-renowned vibe.

Press Reviews

A timely re-issue of this much sought-after classic from 1997, which originally surfaced on Paper Recordings. Produced by members of Royksopp, this aptly-named tune stands the test of time thanks to an irrepressible rhythmic momentum interwoven with multiple strands of swirling texture and a memorable synth-led breakdown. To make the package indispensable, cult producer Terry Lee Brown Junior is on hand to contribute two characteristically fine remixes which successfully add a greater sense of space to the production, while allowing some subliminal quasi-symphonic strings to colour the track with a sense of typically European melancholy. 5/5 TOP TUNE (Will Boulton, iDJ, January 2003)

Drop 1997's original epic dub disco mix next to a Freeform Five track and you're guaranteed to have all and sundry in the palm of your hand for the next two hours. Two Terry Lee Brown mixes straight outta Fabric can't improve upon near perfection but it's still a three-line whip purchase if you missed out first time round. 4/5 (Jez Torrance, iDJ, January 2003)

Torbjorn BrundtlandÕs (now of Royksopp), early side project with Rune Lindbaek and Ole Mjos finally re-surfaces after doing the rounds on dancefloors for what seems like an age. Those Norwegians have previously had outings on Djax (as Ismistik), Reinforced (as Open Skies), Deconstruction (as Volcano) and R&S (as Adena Cycle), but the original version - the ÔKaminzky ParkÕ mix - of this track, with its crazy disco-rock synth riffs and double helping of kitsch bassline, first featured on their ÔKaminzky ParkÕ CD (sadly now out of print) on Paper Recordings back in 1997. This release comes courtesy of CaliforniaÕs Red Melon Records and thankfully includes the original plus a couple of new mixes by Plastic CityÕs Terry Lee Brown Junior who laces the original with dub for the progressive and tribal types. 4/5 (Chucky, www.burnitblue.com, December 2002)
