Dano & Tuhin Roy - Disco Diversions

Hot on the heals of his recent outing on Red Melon (RM16 "You Gotta Love"), Tuhin Roy hits the wax with a vengeance, this time joining forces with Dano as they bring you this sun drenched two-tracker aptly entitled "Disco Diversions".

FreeFormFunk (A1) starts off all warmth and shimmer as the dubby bassline kicks the track into gear. Kinetic Groove's very own Sen-Sei lays down the space-filled keyboard sounds, providing the backdrop for a filtery vocal line that swims it's way through the tune until it's lodged into your brain with it's catchy infectiousness. Dubby and hypnotizing, FreeFormRunk is perfect for that late-summer night fantasy. Full of mystery and possibilities.

Feelin' Alive (B1) finds Tuhin Roy and Dano in top lazy summer form once again, and it doesn't require much imagination on your part to visualise the warm afternoon sun shimmering off the waves as Erika Raeven's beautiful vocals caress your ears. The solid moving bassline gives way to the wah-wah-like guitar and dubbed out echoes Ð it all feels like a cold beer and warm sand between the toes. Indian summer days indeed, so go on, spark up and put your head back...

Press Reviews

Don't be fooled by the overly saccharine early morning deep house of 'Feelin' Alive' because, aside from having a far better title, 'Freeform Funk' is much more what you'd expect from this pairing. Perhaps it's the presence of the sweet-as, sensual Sen-Sei on keys, perhaps it's the Detroit bounce; whatever it is, it's a head-nodder's dream. 4/5 (Jez Torrance, iDJ, November 2003)

Keeping the Red Melon rolling along at some pace, Dano & Tuhin Roy get warm and loved up with some cosy disco grooves. 'Freeform Funk' is everything the title promises, packed with dreamy funky guitars, dubby bubbling bass and feel-good floaty disco-house vibes. Plus there's the odd bit of vocal and an overwhelming feeling of soothing San Fran sunshine. 'Feelin Alive' continues in the same groove, adding some tinkling keys to the blissed out vibe and punctuating it with crisp, shuffling beats. Again, a tune full of emotion and enough to make you wonder what these guys were smoking in the studio! 4.5/5 SUREPLAYER (Dan Irwin, DJ Magazine, 3-16 October 2003)

More West Coast jazzy grooves, Dano and his new partner Tuhin keep things very old school n funky while keeping a lil techy ness for the floor. 'Freeform Funk' has a great driving bassline and bumping keys while 'Feelin' Alive' is more dubby n underground, kinda eyes shut 5am in the morning basement party style.. cool 4/5 (Terry Farley, Update, 1 October 2003)
