Red Melon Reunited — Dano, JZ & Fredness — Undated (Saturday, January 18), Chambers Eat+Drink

Red Melon’s residents were Dano (Dan Hruby), who founded the label in San Francisco in 1996, Jay Zimmermann (JZ), who joined about a year later, and Fredness (Fred Zirdung), who became the critical third member. Dano found house in Copenhagen in late 1989, came up through San Francisco’s Wicked and Come-Unity scenes, and still runs Red Melon. JZ is a selector first, running from deep and soulful house through tribal and tech house, and he took the party south as Melon:LAX and out onto the Bay with the Watermelon boat parties. Fredness covered vocal, deep, tech and funky house, and his residencies at DNA Lounge and 1015 Folsom with Dano and JZ set what Red Melon sounded like on a San Francisco floor.
