Mindprint
Mindprint is a UK production alias of Mark Knight and Kevin Brooks, the pair behind Toolroom. Knight, born in Maidstone, Kent, in 1973, founded Toolroom Records in 2003, and it grew into one of the biggest house and tech-house labels in Britain. Since then he has been Grammy-nominated for his work on the Black Eyed Peas' The E.N.D. and has won the DJ Awards' track of the season with Funkagenda for "Man with the Red Face."
Mindprint's Red Melon record came in 2003, the year Toolroom started, on the split twelve Mindprint vs. Dano. The label's notes at the time called Quickie a slamming main-room pounder. It is deep, hypnotic tech house on a rubbery rolling two-bar sub, with pitched-down and filtered robotic vocal chops over offbeat open hats and shuffling shakers. Dano took the flip with It's My House, which swings 909-style toward a spoken house-rule drop, plus a one-minute Acid Tool for layering.
