Cuffy & Leon D's 19c Trumpet is a West Coast deep-house curio built around a dusty, muted trumpet motif, released in the early 2000s on vinyl with three versions. The Original Mix rebuilds the groove almost entirely from voice: beatboxed kicks and hats, grunt bass, pitched stabs and a mouth-trumpet scat, no real horn in sight. The Trumpapella shortens the arc on a swung 909 pocket, filtered trumpet chops and tape delay. Dano's Melon Dub sets a looped, filtered jazz trumpet over round bouncing bass and subtle deep-house pads, a classic booth cut. Inventive, warm and quietly funny, it captures the label's playful side.
