RM004 Dano & Tony - The Crawl EP
Dano and Tony Hewitt cut The Crawl EP in 1998, and it remains one of the label's most enduring tools. The title track crawls on a rubbery, resonant walking funk bass, swung shakers and minimal dub-techno stabs smeared in tape delay. Phazer Dub sends a woodblock loop through thick phaser and flanger until it becomes pure hypnosis. Onionz & Master D remix The Crawl into something deeper and spacier, with pitched-down vocal bounces and cavernous delay. Late-90s West Coast deep tech at its most elastic, the original still turns up in Beatport DJ charts, including Homero Espinosa's "This Is San Francisco."
